Green CleaningWe all want to live in a clean fresh home, but some of the cleaning products on the supermarket shelves are just not worth our health and money with the toxic chemicals and dubious additives used to make our homes ‘sparkle’.

So using green cleaning products and those you can make yourself at home will not only save you money, but also keep your home smelling fresh without harming your health.

The major two products that you should have in your green cleaning arsenal is vinegar and baking soda.

These products can be used to clean almost everything in your home and they cost almost nothing. You can make an all purpose cleaning by mixing either of them in some warm water.

Baking soda is also one of the best carpet deodorizers for your carpet and rugs. It works to ‘soak’ up the smells and staleness. You sprinkle it on, leave for about half an hour and then vacuum it up. A small amount of baking soda in your fridge will remove all those strange smells and keep your refrigerator smelling fresh and clean.

If you don’t have time to do the cleaning yourself, you can hire green house cleaners to come and do the work for you. They are just as good as regular house cleaners yet they only use non toxic and natural products.

One of the simplest things you can do to improve the air quality in your home is to open a window. Of course you can only do this when the weather is permitting, but since the air in our homes is often up to 100 times more polluted than the air outside you need to get that polluted air out of your home.

And don’t think that so called air fresheners are going to improve your home’s smell – studies by the New Scientist magazine found that in homes where air fresheners and other aerosol sprays were used adults were 25% more likely to experience headaches or depression and infants had more ear infections and diarrhea.

If you want to keep your home smelling fresh then bring in a bunch of flowers for a natural perfume boost.

Did you know that some dish and laundry detergents contain a known carcinogenic – 1,4-dioxane? Or that fragrances in detergents and fabric softeners which contain phthalates have also been linked to cancer and reproductive problems? Next time you are shopping for laundry detergents be sure to use one that is fragrance free and eco-friendly. You could just be saving yourself a lot of future health problems.
