What Are The Top Two Alternative Energy Sources?
Right now at both the individual level (those wanting to go green) and even the country level (the recent signing of the Kyoto Treaty by many countries), we are all looking for the best energy sources that are not only great for the environment but are also cost friendly and easy to use.
Finding the right alternative energy source will mean that we can reduce the pollution in the air and if the source is renewable, never run out of our precious resources. Here are two of the best renewable, alternative energy sources that we can use today.
Solar Energy
Solar energy is usually the first energy solution that people think of when choosing to go green. You’ve probably seen many homes and even large corporations with solar panels on their roof to capture the sun’s rays. This form of energy works by using the heat and light from the sun which get’s captured into solar panels that contain crystals which are very efficient at converting that heat and light into electricity.
The benefits of this form of energy is that it is unlimited, free (except for installation of the solar panels and any maintenance on them), and because it is a clean source of power, it is safe for your health as well as the environment.
The downside is that it isn’t always available. Night time, cloudy or rainy days, or even if you live in an area with limited sunshine can affect the amount of power available.
Wind (Turbine) Power
Wind power is one of the oldest forms of renewable energy (windmills have been around for hundreds of years). In its simplest form, this energy source works by the wind making the turbine blades spin which then works to produce electrical currents which are stored in mini generators.
The benefits of this form of energy is that it, again, is unlimited. It is a clean form of power and is safe for your health and environment.
The downside is that if you are trying to power large cities you need a lot of land to house the turbine’s and that land needs to be flat and high to be able to capture the wind effectively.
Both of these solutions can be used to power one home, or whole cities and are the most common (and some would say best for the environment) of all the alternative power solutions.
